Hello everyone! We are one week away from the first Swingin’ at the Shell concert of the 2020 series! We want to share a few pieces of information based on current executive orders and our upcoming concerts. Albion is lucky to have an outdoor venue in our historic bandshell at Victory Park with its wide open lawn space and ample parking. Based on past concert attendance, we are confident the attendance at any of the upcoming concerts will be below the 500 person threshold. We know that people tend to gravitate toward the shade. This year, please consider bringing an umbrella for shade so that we can utilize the entire lawn space. We believe this will allow everyone to maintain six feet distance between households. If you are part of a vulnerable population, we encourage you to park in a spot that allows you to remain in your vehicle and enjoy the performances. With that in mind, we ask concert goers who will sit on the lawn area to please leave closer parking spots open for higher-risk concert goers. Please wear a face covering when you are moving around the lawn, purchasing concessions, using the restrooms, or in the event you might come into close contact with other individuals. We wholeheartedly believe that everyone who attends any of the upcoming concerts wants to do so in a way that keeps our community healthy. It is everyone’s responsibility to work together and follow the guidelines so that we can enjoy this summer tradition while being safe. If you are not feeling well, have been exposed to anyone who’s not feeling well, or have any symptoms at all - STAY HOME. It’s just not worth the risk of exposing anyone else. If you are uncomfortable attending the 2020 performances, for any reason, we understand, respect your decision, and encourage you to stay safe by staying home. We will be ready to welcome you back for the 2021 season.

2015 Swingin’ at the Shell Concert Series

All of us behind the scenes of Swingin’ at the Shell believe that Albion is a special place and that the Victory Park Band Shell is a unique treasure in our community. Our goal is a simple one – to put together a family-friendly and free music experience for all to enjoy. Bring your friends, family, and neighbors. Grab a blanket or your lawn chairs and pack a picnic dinner. Let your children play, sing and dance. This is good old-fashioned summertime fun! Brian Vander Ark of the Verve Pipe Coming to Albion, Sunday, May 17th at 6pm!

Swingin’ at the Shell is thrilled to announce its final performer for the 2015 Winter Concert Series…

Michigan’s own Brian Vander Ark – the lead singer, guitarist and principal songwriter for the The Verve Pipe – has sold more than 3 million albums worldwide and produced a string of hit singles, including the #1 song ‘The Freshman.’ His gift is one of tremendous storytelling expressed through melodies and rhythms that are unique, riveting, intensely personal and entirely gripping. His journey has resulted in an engrossing collection of songs wrought from an experience that many have dreamed of, but few have faced. On the way, Brian discovered his love for performing and now revels in a freedom that few can claim as he travels the road playing his songs and connecting with audiences. He believes in bringing the music straight to the people.

Brian will be joined by his friends and fellow musicians – Quinn and Channing – for a knock-out performance you won’t want to miss! Sunday, May 17th at 6:00pm at the beautiful and fully renovated Bohm Theatre in downtown Albion. Doors open at 5:30pm. Concessions will be available to purchase at the Bohm. This is a FREE concert thanks to our generous sponsors: Caster Concepts, Parks Drug Store, Team 1 Plastics, and the Albion Community Foundation. This concert is made possible, in part, by the Michigan Humanities Council and the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.

We’ll see you there! Stay tuned for our 2015 summer series line-up. It’s going to be a great year at the Band Shell!

Rhythm Society Orchestra

Join us on Friday, March 6, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. for an exciting performance by this 15-piece dance band! RSO has been a crowd favorite for the past two years! They love playing at the Band Shell with the honking cars in the crowd, and they are thrilled to be coming to the Bohm. How exciting to feature a band that represents the era in which the Bohm Theatre was born! You’ll feel transported back to the great dance halls of the 30’s and 40’s with a night of true vintage swing music!

Moxie Strings

Join us on Sunday, April 26, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. for an electrifying performance by Moxie Strings – described as “Top Notch Instrumental Wizardry!” With their feel-good melodies and foot-stomping, rock-influenced rhythms, this trio has put a fresh, enticing spin on Celtic and Americana music. Though rooted in tradition, The Moxie Strings offer listeners the unique opportunity to experience some of the world’s best-known instruments and oldest genres through a young, progressive lens.

A third concert is in the works and will likely take place in May. Stay tuned for details!
