While musical trends come and go, some traditions, like the brass band, keep evolving and reaching new musical heights without having to toot their own horn. Brass bands were formed in working-class communities in England in the early 1800’s. Although these kinds of musical groups were never truly seen as high art like orchestras or small, traveling ensembles, they were still considered to be a centerpiece for communities to gather and socialize around a common culturally shared interest: music.
Fast forward to today, and The Capital City Brass Band has certainly upped the ante on what a brass band can be. Formed in 2001, this award-winning group (check out all their awards here) is an auditioned group of approximately 25 extremely polished brass and percussion musicians.
Their repertoire consists of virtuosic versions of classical standards, jazz, show tunes, and solo features that spotlight various performers in the ensemble. You will not regret hearing these talented musicians and their conductor, James Otto.
The concert will take place at the Victory Park Band Shell at the usual time, 6 p.m., on Sunday, August 19, 2018. Prepare to be amazed as we present yet another reason to Think Music Think Albion™.
